Hyderabad: HYDRAA Reviews Kukatpally Nalla Cheruvu Development Ahead of Inauguration
Development works at Nalla Cheruvu in Kukatpally are nearing completion, with the project set to be inaugurated by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy after March 6. Officials confirmed that preparations for the inauguration are currently underway.
HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath recently inspected the development works at the lake and directed officials to complete all arrangements required for the opening ceremony. The visit included a review of ongoing infrastructure and landscaping works around the water body.
Inspection of Development Works
During the inspection, Commissioner A.V. Ranganath assessed the progress of the lake restoration and surrounding facilities. Officials were instructed to ensure that all development activities are completed in time for the proposed inauguration.
The Kukatpally Nalla Cheruvu project is part of the first phase of HYDRAA’s initiative to restore and develop six lakes in Hyderabad. The programme focuses on improving urban water bodies while creating public recreational spaces.
Authorities said the project is intended to balance environmental restoration with community infrastructure.
Public Facilities Planned Around the Lake
Officials involved in the project stated that several public amenities are being created as part of the development. These include landscaped parks, designated children’s play areas, and open gym facilities for residents.
The plan is designed to convert the lake surroundings into a usable public space while preserving the water body. The facilities are expected to support recreational activities for local residents.
Urban planners associated with the project noted that the development also aims to improve environmental conditions in the surrounding area.
Environmental and Flood Management Benefits
Officials said that restoring and developing Nalla Cheruvu is expected to contribute to improved water management in Kukatpally and nearby areas.
The rejuvenation of the lake could help reduce flooding risks during heavy rains while supporting groundwater recharge. Such projects are increasingly being integrated into Hyderabad’s urban development strategy to strengthen water sustainability.
With the development works nearing completion, officials are preparing for the formal inauguration once the Chief Minister’s schedule is finalised after March 6.
