Aparna Yadav: Education, Assets and Family Split Explained
Yadav family split comes into public view
The Samajwadi Party’s first family returned to the public spotlight this week after Prateek Yadav announced his decision to separate from his wife, Aparna Yadav. The announcement was made through a post on Instagram, bringing a private family matter into open political and public discussion.
Prateek Yadav, the son of late SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and Sadhna Gupta, used strong language in his post while describing the breakdown of the marriage. He alleged personal distress and accused Aparna Yadav of harming family relationships. The post also referred to his mental health, drawing wide attention on social media.
Political positions and past affiliations
Aparna Yadav is currently serving as Vice Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission under the Bharatiya Janata Party. She joined the BJP in 2022 after leaving the Samajwadi Party, marking a visible political shift within the extended Yadav family led by SP president Akhilesh Yadav.
In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Aparna Yadav contested from the Lucknow Cantonment seat on an SP ticket. She was defeated by BJP candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi. Since then, she has remained politically active, later aligning herself with the BJP leadership.
Education and public disclosures
Aparna Yadav has an overseas academic background. She completed a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Manchester in 2011, a detail that has often been highlighted in her political profile.
Financial details available on the election affidavit portal myneta.info list her declared net worth at ₹22.96 crore. The same records also show liabilities exceeding ₹7 crore, largely in the form of loans.
Assets, properties, and liabilities
The disclosures include jewellery valued at approximately ₹1.88 crore and a high-end luxury car, a Lamborghini, estimated at over ₹5 crore. The couple also declared agricultural land worth around ₹30 lakh and non-agricultural land valued at about ₹27 lakh.
In addition, a commercial building in Lucknow valued at nearly ₹2.5 crore is listed in Prateek Yadav’s name. Two residential properties in Lucknow, also registered under his name, are together valued at approximately ₹3.2 crore.
The separation announcement has drawn attention not only because of the family involved, but also due to the political positions and public profiles connected to both sides.
