Vijayashanti flags delay in promises to activists
Congress MLC Vijayashanti questions delay in promises to activists
Remarks raised in Legislative Council
Congress MLC Vijayashanti has flagged delays in implementing promises made to movement activists, raising the issue during proceedings in the Legislative Council. Her comments have triggered discussion within political circles and on social media.
She pointed out that several assurances were made to activists in the election manifesto but have not been fulfilled even after the party assumed power.
Promises listed during discussion
Speaking in the Council, Vijayashanti recalled that the government had promised multiple benefits to activists. These included allotment of 250 square yards of house site and financial assistance of Rs.5 lakh for house construction.
She also referred to commitments of Rs.4,000 pension, Rs.10 lakh health insurance, and provision of jobs. According to her, these assurances were part of the party’s declared agenda before coming to power.
Concern over two-year delay
Vijayashanti stated that more than two years have passed since the Congress government came to power, but the promised benefits have not reached the activists. She said this delay was a matter of concern.
She noted that while several schemes are being announced and implemented, priority should have been given to activists as per the commitments made earlier.
Activists seeking answers
The MLC said activists are now approaching leaders and questioning the status of the promises made to them. She described their approach as respectful but said the lack of clarity on timelines has raised concerns.
According to her, activists are asking why the assurances have not been implemented despite the passage of time.
Committee approach questioned
Vijayashanti also referred to the proposal of forming a committee to address the issue. She expressed the view that such a step could lead to further delay in implementation.
She suggested that quicker action on the commitments would be more appropriate, given that the government has already completed over two years in office.
Context: Manifesto commitments under scrutiny
The issue brings attention to manifesto commitments and their implementation timelines. Internal remarks from party representatives indicate that delivery of promised benefits remains under review.
The discussion in the Council reflects ongoing concerns over policy execution and prioritisation within the administration.
