Police in Tirupati have arrested a man for allegedly impersonating a senior officer and cheating people by promising jobs. The accused, identified as Suresh Kumar, reportedly posed as an IPS officer, detective official, and NIA officer at different times to mislead victims.
The case came to light after a complaint exposed his activities and triggered a police investigation.
Victim Allegedly Cheated of Rs 1.5 Lakh
According to police, Suresh Kumar befriended a youth named Venkateswara Rao from Auto Nagar in Tirupati. The victim works as a pharmacist at SVIMS hospital and also drove Rapido in his spare time. During one such ride, the accused introduced himself as an IPS officer working with the NIA in Delhi and claimed he had recently been transferred to Hyderabad.
He allegedly promised to secure a job for the victim as a divisional advisor in the Income Tax office in Hyderabad under a replacement quota. Believing the claim, the victim paid around Rs 1.5 lakh in multiple instalments.
Complaint Leads to Arrest
After receiving the money, the accused reportedly changed his behaviour, raising suspicion. When the victim demanded a refund, the accused allegedly threatened him. The victim then approached Alipiri Police Station and filed a complaint.
Police registered a case and took the accused into custody. During questioning, officials uncovered the impersonation and cheating. The accused was later produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Investigation Continues
Police are examining whether the accused cheated others using similar methods. Further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of the fraud and identify any additional victims.
