The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducted a surprise operation at the GHMC Kukatpally zonal office, leading to the arrest of a senior engineering official on charges of accepting a bribe. The action was taken following a formal complaint alleging illegal gratification linked to official work.
Superintending Engineer Caught While Accepting Bribe
During the operation, Superintending Engineer (SE) Chinnar Reddy was caught red-handed while accepting ₹15 lakh from a contractor. The money was allegedly demanded in connection with the clearance of pending bills related to contract works.
ACB officials moved in at the precise moment the bribe amount was being received, leaving no scope for dispute over the transaction. The arrest took place inside the Kukatpally GHMC zonal office, underscoring the seriousness of the allegations.
Complaint Led to Planned Trap
Officials stated that the operation was carried out after receiving a prior complaint from the contractor. Based on the information provided, a detailed plan was drawn up to trap the official while he was accepting the bribe.
The complainant reportedly approached the ACB after repeated demands were made for payment in exchange for clearing the pending bills. Following verification, the bureau proceeded with the trap under established procedures.
ACB Reiterates Stand on Corruption
Following the arrest, the ACB reiterated that corruption in government offices would not be tolerated under any circumstances. The bureau stated that strict action would continue against public servants found misusing their official positions for personal gain.
Officials emphasised that complaints from the public would be acted upon promptly and that vigilance operations would be intensified to deter similar practices across departments.
Administrative Impact
The arrest is expected to have immediate administrative consequences within the GHMC Kukatpally zone, particularly in matters related to project billing and approvals. Further legal proceedings against the accused official are expected to follow as part of the investigation.
