Police Say No Complaint Received in Asifabad Assault Case
Police Await Formal Complaint After Village Action in Asifabad Case
A serious incident involving two minor girls was reported from Asifabad district, where a village-level intervention followed an alleged attempt of sexual assault. Police authorities have stated that no formal complaint has been received in the matter so far.
Incident Reported in Chintalamanepalli Mandal
The incident occurred in Chintalamanepalli mandal of Asifabad district on Sunday. A 16-year-old boy from the same area allegedly attempted to sexually assault two girls, aged six and nine, near his residence. The attempt was reportedly made after luring the children with ₹10.
The situation came to light when a local resident noticed the incident and immediately informed the families of the girls. The matter did not reach the police at that stage.
Village Panchayat Convenes the Same Evening
Later on Sunday evening, a village panchayat was convened to address the incident. Elders of the village summoned the juvenile and his mother to the meeting. During the panchayat, both were reprimanded for the alleged act.
Following the deliberations, the caste elders announced the social boycott of the boy and his mother, declaring their expulsion from the village. The decision was conveyed publicly during the meeting.
Police Say No Complaint Filed
Police officials in the district said they have not received any complaint related to the incident. In the absence of a formal complaint, no case has been registered, they said.
Officials indicated that procedural action can begin only after a complaint is lodged by the affected family or any responsible individual reporting the offense. Without this, the police said they remain unaware of the incident through official channels.
Administrative and Legal Context
The incident highlights the reliance on informal village-level mechanisms in sensitive cases involving minors. While panchayats continue to intervene in rural disputes, law enforcement authorities maintain that offenses involving children fall under statutory laws requiring mandatory reporting.
Police reiterated that any attempt of sexual assault, especially involving minors, is a cognizable offense and should be immediately reported to the authorities for legal action under existing laws.
