Centre Confirms Poor Visibility Caused Ajit Pawar’s Plane Crash
Centre Confirms Weather Factor in Baramati Crash
The Central government on Wednesday confirmed that poor visibility caused by dense fog led to the plane crash involving Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in Baramati. The finding is based on preliminary assessments conducted after the accident, which occurred during landing in adverse weather conditions.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said early indicators point clearly to reduced visibility as the primary factor behind the crash. He stated that the investigation would be conducted in a transparent and accountable manner.
Low Visibility During Landing Attempt
The incident took place at around 8:48 am, when the weather conditions in Baramati were unfavorable. Dense fog had settled across the region, sharply reducing visibility levels and complicating aircraft operations at the airstrip.
As per initial findings, Air Traffic Control had queried the pilot about runway visibility before the landing attempt. The pilot reported that the runway was not visible at that stage, following which the aircraft remained airborne and circled the area.
ATC Clearance and Second Approach
After some time, the aircraft made a second approach. During this attempt, the pilot informed ATC that the runway was visible. Based on this confirmation, clearance to land was granted by air traffic controllers.
Shortly after clearance, the aircraft crashed while attempting to land. Officials said the sequence of communication between the pilot and ATC is a key part of the ongoing examination.
Weather Conditions Under Scrutiny
Local officials and residents reported persistent fog in Baramati throughout the morning hours. Visibility was described as severely restricted, affecting movement and operations in the area well beyond aviation activity.
The Civil Aviation Minister reiterated that the dense fog and poor visibility were directly linked to the accident. He added that the inquiry would review all operational, technical, and procedural aspects to establish a complete account of events.
Assurance of Transparent Probe
The government has assured that the investigation will be thorough and responsible. Authorities stated that accountability and safety improvements would remain central to the process, with findings expected to guide future preventive measures.
No additional conclusions beyond the preliminary assessment have been announced at this stage.
