Kavitha Signals New Political Chapter as Council Chairman Weighs In
Former BRS leader and recent MLC resignee K. Kavitha has formally announced plans to launch a new political party, marking a significant turn in her public life.
From Movement to Political Platform
Speaking in the Legislative Council on Monday, Kavitha confirmed that her long-running organisation Telangana Jagruti will be transformed into a full-fledged political outfit. The party will be named Telangana Jagruti Party (TJP), she told the House, signalling her intent to re-enter active electoral politics through a new platform.
Kavitha recently stepped down from her MLC position, a move that had already fuelled speculation about her next political steps. Monday’s announcement put an end to that uncertainty.
Chairman Questions the Need for New Parties
Reacting to the development, Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy made pointed remarks on the proliferation of political parties in the state. He said Telangana did not require another political outfit and suggested that anyone planning to launch a new party should carefully assess public support.
Referring to past precedents, Gutta noted that several parties had emerged over the years but failed to sustain themselves. “Many parties were formed in the past. What happened to them?” he asked, hinting that Kavitha’s proposed party could face a similar fate.
At the same time, he clarified that his comments should not be seen as discouragement. In a democracy, he said, everyone has the freedom to form a political party, and such decisions ultimately rest with individuals.
Resignation Accepted After Repeated Requests
The Council Chairman also shed light on the circumstances surrounding Kavitha’s resignation as an MLC. He said the resignation was accepted only after she insisted on it repeatedly.
“People sometimes resign in an emotional moment. If given time, they may reconsider. That is why I waited,” Gutta explained, adding that there was no pressure from any quarter in the matter. “In the end, I accepted her resignation as per her request.”
Political Climate Under Strain
Commenting more broadly on the state’s political atmosphere, Gutta remarked that the situation in Telangana was far from healthy. Existing parties themselves were struggling to protect their political space, he said, in an apparent reference to the challenges facing established formations.
As Kavitha prepares to launch the Telangana Jagruti Party, her move is set to add a new dimension to an already complex political landscape, even as questions remain about how much space a new party can carve out among voters.
