Vijayasai Reddy Breaks Silence on Exit from YSRCP
Allegations against the party coterie
Former Rajya Sabha MP Vijayasai Reddy has made a series of statements explaining his separation from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), placing responsibility on a group within the party leadership. He said he did not voluntarily quit the party but was deliberately sidelined by individuals close to former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who, he claimed, were believed by the party chief.
Vijayasai Reddy said he conveyed these views during questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), adding that internal party dynamics played a decisive role in his political isolation.
Role in YSRCP’s rise to power
Recalling his association with the YSRCP, Vijayasai Reddy said he worked closely with the party until it came to power in the 2019 Assembly elections. He stated that for about a year after the formation of the government, he was given significant importance and effectively held the second position in the party structure.
He added that this position gradually weakened after 2020, marking the beginning of his marginalization within the party.
Claims of mistrust and distancing
According to Vijayasai Reddy, certain individuals within Jagan Mohan Reddy’s inner circle allegedly created an atmosphere of suspicion against him. He said parallels were drawn within the party, suggesting he could betray Jagan Mohan Reddy in a manner similar to historical political rivalries, and that such narratives were believed by the leadership.
He alleged that these claims led to a loss of trust and resulted in his gradual exclusion from decision-making.
Statement to ED on liquor case
Addressing the liquor scam allegations, Vijayasai Reddy said he informed ED officials that he did not believe such a scam could have occurred with Jagan Mohan Reddy’s knowledge. He stated that if Jagan had been aware, he would not have remained silent.
He further said he also told the agency that he did not believe a liquor scam had taken place at all and that the issue was not the reason for his exit from the YSRCP.
Accusations against Chandrababu Naidu
Vijayasai Reddy accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of deliberately implicating him in cases unrelated to him, including the alleged liquor scam, the Kakinada Port case, and matters related to land in Visakhapatnam. He said political power is not permanent and cautioned against assuming otherwise.
Views on party structure and ED probe
He maintained that in the YSRCP, authority rested solely with Jagan Mohan Reddy, from the top down. He said he conveyed to ED officials that regional parties like the YSRCP do not have a permanent “number two” position.
Vijayasai Reddy said he is prepared to appear before the ED whenever summoned again and will continue to share what he knows, noting that he has not been arrested due to the absence of evidence against him.
