A tragic incident was reported from Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district after four members of a family drowned in a local stream in Ramnagar.
The incident occurred at Chattrari Nallah in the Ramnagar area. The victims, three sisters and their brother, had taken cattle for grazing before entering the stream for a bath. Police said an attempt by one to rescue another led to all four being pulled under the water.
Rescue Operation Conducted by SDRF
The incident came to light in the afternoon when villagers noticed the body of a young girl floating in the stream. Authorities were alerted immediately.
SDPO Dr Bhisham Dubey, SHO Pushpinder Singh, and an SDRF team reached the spot and launched a search operation. The remaining three bodies were later recovered from the water.
All four bodies were shifted to the Sub-District Hospital in Ramnagar, where post-mortem examinations were conducted.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as Nishu Devi (16), daughter of Firangu Ram; Anju Devi (22), her elder sister; Meenakshi (12), the youngest sibling; and Yash Pal (24), their brother.
Yash Pal’s biological father is Som Raj Gaddi. He had been adopted by Firangu Ram.
Family and Village Mourn Loss
The deaths have left the family devastated. The incident has also cast a shadow over the village, with residents expressing grief over the loss of four young lives from the same household.
