TGSRTC Issues LOI for 1,085 Olectra Electric Buses
Major Boost to Hyderabad’s Electric Public Transport
Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has issued a Letter of Intent to Olectra Greentech Limited, through Evey Trans Pvt. Ltd., for the supply of 1,085 electric buses. The fleet will be deployed in Hyderabad as part of efforts to strengthen clean and sustainable public transport infrastructure.
The order falls under the PM E-DRIVE initiative led by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric mobility across Indian cities.
Alignment With the State’s Green Mobility Policy
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has outlined a policy direction focused on rapid electrification of public transport, reduction of carbon emissions, and expansion of clean energy systems. The induction of 1,085 electric buses forms part of the state’s strategy to modernise urban mobility and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
The initiative is expected to contribute to a low-carbon urban ecosystem while enhancing the capacity of Hyderabad’s public transport network.
Bus Specifications and Deployment Details
Olectra will supply 12-metre low-floor electric buses in both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned variants. The buses are designed and engineered in India to suit domestic road conditions and intensive urban operations.
Each bus will be equipped with advanced front and rear air suspension systems to improve ride comfort and passenger safety. High-capacity lithium-ion battery packs will power the vehicles, offering a driving range of more than 250 kilometres per charge. Opportunity charging capability of approximately 45 minutes has also been incorporated.
Dedicated wheelchair spaces will be provided to ensure accessibility and inclusive mobility within the city transport system.
Olectra’s Market Position
Headquartered in Hyderabad, Olectra Greentech has deployed over 3,600 electric vehicles nationwide and maintains an order book exceeding 10,000 vehicles. The company has recorded more than 500 million green kilometres through its electric fleet operations.
Managing Director Mahesh Babu described the order as a milestone in the company’s expansion in electric mobility manufacturing under the Make in India framework.
With this addition, Hyderabad’s public transport system moves closer to its long-term objective of establishing a zero-emission, future-ready mobility network aligned with national clean energy goals.
