The Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) has introduced a change in the mode of electricity bill payments for consumers. The decision relates to the use of third-party payment applications and takes effect today, affecting how users settle their electricity dues.
Under the revised arrangement, consumers have been advised not to make electricity bill payments through third-party mobile applications. The change follows updated regulatory guidelines and marks a shift from earlier payment practices that allowed wider digital platforms.
Third-Party Payment Apps Discontinued
As per the latest instruction, electricity bill payments made through PhonePe, Google Pay, Amazon Pay, and Paytm will no longer be accepted. TGSPDCL has stopped processing transactions routed through these platforms in line with the new Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines governing payment systems.
The move is expected to affect a large section of consumers who previously relied on digital wallets and payment apps for routine bill settlements. The department has clarified that only designated official payment channels will remain valid going forward.
Approved Channels for Bill Payments
Consumers have been directed to use only the authorized methods to complete their electricity bill payments. These include the official TGSPDCL website, the TGSPDCL mobile application, and physical payment at electricity department counters or Mee Seva centers.
The department has urged consumers to shift to these official platforms to avoid payment failures or delays. Timely settlement through recognized channels will ensure that bills are processed without interruption.
Auto-Pay Users Advised to Review Settings
Many consumers use auto-pay features linked to their bank cards through third-party applications. With the new changes in place, such automatic deductions may no longer function as expected. Users have been cautioned not to rely solely on previously set auto-payment instructions.
Consumers are advised to manually verify their bill status through the official TGSPDCL website or app and complete payments accordingly. Failure to do so could result in pending transactions or unsuccessful payments.
Administrative Impact on Consumers
The department has highlighted that unsuccessful or delayed payments could create complications for consumers, including outstanding dues. The revised system is intended to streamline payment processing under approved regulatory norms.
Consumers have been encouraged to remain aware of the new payment procedure and ensure that their electricity bills are paid through authorized platforms to avoid service-related issues.
