Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday criticized the BJP and BRS during a media interaction held at his Jubilee Hills residence, as the state prepares for municipal elections. He urged voters to compare the governance of the BJP at the Centre for twelve years, the BRS in the state for ten years, and the Congress government over the past two years before casting their votes.
The Chief Minister said elections will be held in 116 municipalities and seven corporations, where a three-cornered contest among Congress, BJP, and BRS is expected. He framed the upcoming polls as a referendum on governance and development across different administrations.
Allegations of Financial Discrimination Against Telangana
Revanth Reddy accused the BJP-led Union government of showing financial bias against Telangana in the allocation of central funds. He stated that for every rupee contributed by the state in taxes, Telangana receives only 42 paise in return, while Bihar receives ₹6.06 and Uttar Pradesh ₹2.90.
He questioned whether Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay had ever raised this issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Chief Minister also recalled that the national status promised to the Palamuru-Rangareddy project in 2014 was not granted, calling it a broken assurance.
Referring to past GHMC election promises, he criticized BJP leaders for not fulfilling commitments made to flood victims. He remarked that the Prime Minister has no role in local civic works, questioning the relevance of national-level campaigning in municipal elections.
Sharp Criticism of BRS Governance
The Chief Minister blamed the previous ten-year BRS rule for several current problems in the state. He questioned how the party, after governing from village to municipal levels for a decade, could now seek votes claiming to resolve the same issues.
Revanth Reddy accused former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, K. T. Rama Rao, and T. Harish Rao of responsibility for administrative failures and alleged irregularities, including claims linked to telephone tapping and financial misuse. He also alleged that the BJP and BRS maintained close political coordination until 2023, citing policy support on issues such as demonetization and farm laws.
Government Performance Over Two Years
Highlighting his administration’s record, the Chief Minister said several commitments were implemented within two years of coming to power. He noted that government employees are receiving salaries on the first day of each month and that the Aarogyasri health coverage limit was increased to ₹10 lakh.
He added that free bus travel for women has been introduced, farm loan waivers completed, and a ₹500 bonus announced for paddy procurement. According to him, around 70,000 jobs were filled, and financial assistance of ₹5 lakh is being provided under the Indiramma housing scheme.
He also stated that the government addressed issues related to the BC caste census and SC classification, presenting these as policy steps taken during the current tenure.
Political Message Ahead of Elections
The Chief Minister said the state government would continue to engage with the Centre on issues concerning Telangana’s interests. He expressed confidence that the Congress would remain in power for the next eight years and appealed to voters to support the party in the upcoming municipal elections, promising continued development.
