Telangana Cabinet Approves Welfare and Security Measures for Employees
The Telangana Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Secretariat, has cleared a series of decisions focused onthe welfare and security of government employees and pensioners. Two new schemes aimed at financial protection and healthcare access received approval during the meeting.
The decisions were later announced at a media briefing by Ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Adluri Laxman Kumar, and Vakiti Srihari.
Accident Insurance Scheme Extended to All Employees and Pensioners
The Cabinet approved a comprehensive Accident Insurance Scheme providing coverage without requiring any premium payment from employees or pensioners. The scheme, earlier implemented successfully in Singareni and Transco, has now been expanded across the state.
Under the scheme, ₹1.2 crore will be paid as insurance compensation in case of accidental death. Employees will also receive a ₹10 lakh term insurance benefit for natural death up to the age of 60. A total of 7.57 lakh beneficiaries, including 5.19 lakh regular government employees and 2.38 lakh pensioners from government, corporations, and public sector units, will be covered.
Cabinet Clears Cashless Employee Health Scheme
The long-pending Cashless Employee Health Scheme (EHS) was approved to provide healthcare security to government employees and pensioners. The scheme will cover 3.56 lakh regular employees, 2.88 lakh pensioners, and their dependent family members, benefiting a total of 17.07 lakh individuals.
Under the scheme, employees will receive cashless treatment in all government hospitals and 652 empanelled private hospitals, covering 1,998 types of medical procedures. Digital health cards will be issued through the Rajiv Aarogyasri Health Care Trust. Employees will contribute 1.5 percent of their basic pay, matched equally by the government, with the total annual scheme cost estimated at ₹1,056 crore.
Health System Reforms and Institutional Changes
To strengthen healthcare delivery, the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP) will be converted into the Directorate of Secondary Health Care. A special committee led by Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, with Dr. Nori Dattatreyudu and Dr. Srinath Reddy as members, will study new systems for efficient hospital management across departments.
Infrastructure, Education, and Urban Expansion Decisions
The Cabinet approved the inclusion of four villages—Chittiguda and Yavapur in Nawabpet mandal, and Tekulapalli and Enkatala in Mominpet mandal of Vikarabad district—within HMDA limits. The government also decided to take over Metro Phase-1 from L&T and expand Metro Phase-2 through a joint venture with the Centre.
Land allocations were cleared for a Multi-Modal Logistics Park and Food Processing Park in Koheda, a world-class fruit market under TG Housing Board, and engineering colleges in Mahabubabad and Siddipet districts. Land was also earmarked for 21 new Young India Integrated Residential Schools, a mini stadium in Bhadrachalam, and religious and institutional projects, including TTD and Endowments Department initiatives.
Additional approvals included renewable energy distribution licences for data centres using 300 MW of power and land exchange with the Defence Ministry for elevated corridor construction in Hyderabad.
