TDP Marks Nara Lokesh’s Birthday With Statewide Party Events
The party plans large-scale celebrations
The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is organizing extensive birthday celebrations for Minister Nara Lokesh, describing the arrangements as larger than in previous years. Party leaders said special programmes, videos, and curated content highlighting Lokesh’s political journey and administrative work are being released as part of the celebrations.
Compared to earlier years, this year’s observance has been planned on a broader scale, with coordinated activity across party units and social media platforms.
Along with party-led celebrations, the occasion gained additional public visibility after Junior NTR extended birthday greetings to Nara Lokesh, sparking discussion across political and film circles.
Early life and entry into politics
Born on January 23, 1983, Nara Lokesh completed his education abroad before entering active politics in 2017. During the period when his father, N. Chandrababu Naidu, served as Chief Minister between 1996 and 2004, Lokesh largely remained outside the state due to his studies.
He completed his undergraduate education in 2004 and an MBA from Stanford University in 2008, following which he worked for two years. Ahead of the 2014 Assembly elections, he worked behind the scenes for the TDP but did not take up a formal political role even after the party returned to power.
Ministerial role and political setbacks
Lokesh entered the legislature as an MLC in 2017 and later became a minister. During this phase, rural roads spanning nearly 24,000 kilometers were constructed under his watch. Despite this, he faced sustained criticism from political opponents, including personal attacks and questions over his political capability.
His limited fluency in Telugu at the time was also frequently targeted. In the 2019 Assembly elections, Lokesh suffered an electoral defeat, a phase that later became a turning point in his political career.
Rebuilding after 2019
After the 2019 loss, Lokesh focused on strengthening his grassroots presence, particularly in Mangalagiri, where he later secured a decisive victory. He undertook the Yuvagalam padayatra, positioning himself as a future leader of the party.
The march faced interruptions, including a pause following the arrest of Chandrababu Naidu, but Lokesh resumed the programme after his father’s release, completing the outreach effort.
Role after the 2024 elections
Following the 2024 elections, Lokesh’s functioning within both the party and the government has drawn attention. He currently oversees the Education and IT portfolios, with a focus on administrative reforms and coordination with alliance partners.
The TDP has released multiple videos outlining its political journey and work, which party workers are widely sharing. There is also discussion about the allied party Jana Sena marking the occasion, reflecting coordination within the alliance.
