Sweden man charged in wife exploitation case
Sweden prosecutors file charges against man in wife exploitation case
Charges filed in alleged long-term exploitation
Prosecutors in Sweden have filed serious charges against a 62-year-old man accused of exploiting his wife over several years for financial gain. The case has drawn attention after allegations that the woman was forced into repeated sexual acts with multiple individuals.
Authorities have accused the man of aggravated procuring, assault, and multiple counts of rape. The charges were formally brought by Swedish prosecutors earlier this week.
Allegations of coercion and organised exploitation
According to details presented in the charge sheet, the accused allegedly pressured his wife into engaging in sexual activities and submission. He is said to have arranged meetings, advertised services online, and monitored the encounters.
Investigators have stated that the man used coercion, threats, and control to maintain the arrangement. The woman’s vulnerabilities, including her dependence and fear, were allegedly exploited over an extended period.
Identification of multiple individuals
Officials have identified around 120 individuals who allegedly engaged in sexual acts with the woman under these arrangements. Prosecutor Ida Arnellstedt had earlier confirmed that cases have already been registered against 26 of them.
The incidents are reported to have taken place between August 2022 and October 2025.
Arrest and background details
The accused was arrested in northern Sweden in late October after the woman approached police with a complaint. He has remained in custody since then.
According to public broadcaster SVT, the man was previously associated with the biker group Hells Angels as a senior member.
Legal framework and upcoming trial
Under Swedish law, selling sexual services is not considered a crime, but purchasing such services and facilitating them is punishable. The charges in this case are based on allegations of coercion, facilitation, and violence.
Authorities have confirmed that the trial in this case is scheduled to begin on April 13.
Context and wider attention
The case has drawn comparisons in sections of the media to the 2024 “Giselle Pelicot” case in France due to the nature of the allegations.
Legal representatives for the woman have stated that they are pursuing justice through the ongoing proceedings. The case has generated significant attention internationally.
