Former Chief Minister of Telangana and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president K. Chandrashekar Rao was questioned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Thursday in connection with the phone tapping case. The questioning formed part of the ongoing probe being conducted by the SIT into alleged illegal surveillance during the previous BRS government.
KCR appeared before the SIT earlier in the day and responded to questions raised by the investigation team. Officials have not disclosed details of the questioning or the duration of the interaction.
Party cadre gather outside KCR residence
As the SIT questioning took place, a large number of BRS leaders and party workers assembled outside KCR’s residence at Nandi Nagar in Hyderabad. The gathering began in the evening and continued for several hours, drawing significant police presence in the area.
BRS working president and former minister K.T. Rama Rao was also present at the residence. Both KCR and KTR greeted party leaders and workers who had gathered outside, acknowledging their presence without addressing the media.
Police deployment and crowd management
Police personnel were deployed around Nandi Nagar to regulate traffic and manage the crowd. Barricades were placed at key entry points, and movement was closely monitored to prevent any law and order issues.
The gathering followed a day of heightened political activity, with party supporters mobilising across parts of Hyderabad. Earlier, the BRS cadre had marched from Telangana Bhavan towards Nandi Nagar, prompting increased police arrangements. Details of that mobilisation were reported earlier in a related development on City Buzz Daily.
Case background and administrative focus
The phone tapping case has emerged as a significant political and legal issue in Telangana, with the SIT continuing to summon key individuals as part of its investigation. The questioning of a former chief minister has added to the administrative and political sensitivity surrounding the probe.
Authorities remain focused on ensuring that the investigation proceeds without disruption while maintaining public order during politically charged moments. No further summons or procedural steps were announced at the end of the day.
