Two Angles Under Investigation
Officials are analyzing the case from two distinct angles. One relates to alleged illegal phone tapping carried out through official channels under the pretext of monitoring Maoist activities. The second concerns alleged unauthorized surveillance conducted in private residences and offices.
Based on evidence gathered so far, the SIT is preparing charges against former SIB chief Prabhakar Rao and members of his team for their alleged involvement in official-level tapping operations. The role of former Task Force chief Radhakishan Rao in alleged surveillance and intimidation activities is also under scrutiny.
Focus on Political and Financial Links
Investigators are examining whether instructions were issued for tapping and whether any political or financial advantage was derived. The SIT is expected to name KCR, KTR, Harish Rao, former MP Santosh Rao, and two other prominent individuals in the chargesheet, supported by documented evidence.
Officials who were part of the Review Committee that authorized phone tapping are likely to be listed as witnesses in the case. One IAS officer is expected to be presented as an approver. Investigators are also examining allegations that information obtained through tapping was used in land-related dealings and are gathering supporting material connected to the beneficiaries.
Possible Additions to Accused List
Sources indicate that a few key individuals may be arrested before the chargesheet is filed. The SIT is also considering adding five to six more names to the accused list. The name of Nishant Rao, son of former SIB chief Prabhakar Rao, is likely to be included among the accused.
With the case having completed two years since registration, the SIT has reviewed the investigation conducted so far and framed a strategy for the next stage of legal action.
