Rising Heat in Telangana Assembly
Political Storm Over Chief Minister’s Words
The dispute surrounding the Revanth Reddy Language Controversy has continued to dominate Telangana politics since the Chief Minister made harsh statements during an Assembly session last week. What began as an exchange between treasury benches and the opposition has gradually turned into a larger debate about democratic conduct and the dignity of constitutional institutions. Bharat Rashtra Samithi leaders argue that the tone adopted by the Chief Minister crossed accepted boundaries and created an atmosphere of fear among elected representatives. Congress members, on the other hand, maintain that the remarks were made in the context of an emotional discussion on governance failures of previous regimes.
The issue gained fresh momentum when senior BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan Kumar sent an open communication to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. In that letter, he expressed concern that the Chief Minister has been repeatedly using offensive expressions not only in political meetings but also inside the Assembly. Sravan Kumar stated that such behaviour weakens public trust in government and sends the wrong message to young citizens who follow legislative proceedings. According to him, the language used by the Chief Minister lowered the prestige of the office he represents.
BRS Turns to National Congress Leadership
Sravan Kumar’s appeal to Rahul Gandhi marks a strategic shift by the BRS to involve the central Congress leadership in the controversy. The BRS leader reminded Gandhi that he is the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha and therefore has a responsibility to protect constitutional values across the country. He alleged that Revanth Reddy made objectionable comments against opposition figures, village sarpanches, and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, damaging the spirit of cooperative federalism. Sravan Kumar also wrote that the same tone was visible even at public programmes where schoolchildren were present, which he described as highly unfortunate.
In addition to complaints about speech, the BRS leader raised several allegations against the Congress government in Telangana. He claimed that public money is being diverted for publicity rather than development and that land acquisition matters have not been handled in a fair manner. Sravan Kumar accused the state administration of encouraging favouritism while awarding contracts and ignoring the problems faced by farmers and unemployed youth. By linking governance issues with the Revanth Reddy Language Controversy, the BRS attempted to present the matter as part of a broader decline in democratic culture.
Threatening Remarks Trigger Outrage
The controversy originally erupted after Revanth Reddy, during a heated debate on Saturday, launched a sharp attack on KCR and senior BRS leaders, accusing them of betraying Telangana aspirations. While responding to criticism of Congress rule, the Chief Minister reportedly used violent metaphors such as talking about skinning rivals, cutting tongues, and other expressions considered unparliamentary. Those comments immediately provoked strong protests from BRS MLAs, who demanded that the Chief Minister withdraw the words and tender an unconditional apology.
Former irrigation minister and BRS deputy floor leader T Harish Rao moved a privilege motion notice against the Chief Minister. Harish Rao stated that the House should not allow threats of physical harm to be voiced on the Assembly floor. BRS working president K T Rama Rao also condemned the statements and called the Chief Minister’s speech reckless and insulting. KTR said that political rivalry cannot justify personal abuse and that the government must set an example of civility.
Counter Statements Deepen the Rift
However, the response from the BRS camp was not free from controversy either. KTR created another dispute when he said that Rahul Gandhi should be held responsible for Congress’s unfulfilled promises in Telangana and even used extreme expressions against the national leader. Congress representatives criticised KTR for escalating the matter instead of seeking peace. They argued that the BRS is deliberately keeping the Revanth Reddy Language Controversy alive for political mileage.
The war of words has widened the gap between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS. Both parties have accused each other of undermining the decorum of public life. Congress ministers defended the Chief Minister, saying the opposition provoked him with baseless charges. They added that BRS leaders also used unacceptable phrases inside the House and therefore have no moral right to complain.
Demands for Intervention and Apology
Since the first incident, BRS legislators have been holding press conferences and staging protests demanding an apology from Revanth Reddy. Harish Rao insisted that the Chief Minister should make a clear statement in the next session and assure the House that such language will not be repeated. Several civil society groups in Hyderabad also expressed worry that violent metaphors in legislative bodies could normalise hatred among supporters.
Congress leaders urged the BRS to withdraw the privilege motion and help the House function smoothly. They said development debates should replace personal disputes. Yet the BRS has refused to step back, stating that the Revanth Reddy Language Controversy is about protecting democracy, not about gaining publicity.
Episode Likely to Escalate Further
The situation suggests that the political episode will intensify in coming days. BRS MLAs plan to take the matter to the Governor and to national human rights bodies, arguing that threats voiced by the Chief Minister could influence local administration. Congress strategists believe the opposition is using the issue to divert attention from internal challenges within the BRS.
Meanwhile, film actor Prakash Raj, at a rights event in Hyderabad, spoke about ideological threats posed by national politics, indirectly referring to the declining tolerance in public discourse. Though his comments were not directly connected to the Assembly debate, media linked them with the atmosphere created by the
Revanth Reddy Language Controversy.
For Telangana citizens, the continuing clash between Congress and BRS has become a daily topic of discussion. The Assembly, which is expected to debate irrigation, employment, and welfare, is currently witnessing arguments over speech and privilege motions. Observers state that unless both sides show restraint, the House may face more disruptions. The demand placed before Rahul Gandhi by Sravan Kumar has added a national dimension and placed Congress leadership under pressure to respond.
The Revanth Reddy Language Controversy therefore remains unresolved, shaping the relationship between ruling and opposition camps. Whether the Chief Minister offers an apology or the privilege motion proceeds, the incident has already increased tensions in Telangana politics and raised serious questions about democratic manners in the Assembly.
