Congress Leader’s Remark on Rahul Gandhi Sparks Political Storm
After Maharashtra Congress leader Nana Patole likened Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi to Lord Ram, a verbal sparring match broke out between the Congress and the BJP. Patole’s comments were quickly denounced as “sycophancy pro max” by the BJP. When asked why Rahul Gandhi hasn’t yet visited the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Nana Patole made these comments.
In response to the inquiry, the senior Congress leader stated that Rahul Gandhi had not yet been able to travel to Ayodhya because he was “doing the work of Lord Ram.” Rahul Gandhi wants to perform the service rather than “doing photoshoots” at the Ram temple, he continued, seemingly taking a jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Rahul Gandhi is pursuing justice for the oppressed and persecuted, just as Lord Ram did. Instead of taking pictures at the Ram Temple, he prefers to perform this service, according to Patole. The congressman went on to say that Rajiv Gandhi was in office when the decision to unlock the Ram Temple was made.
BJP Hits Out At Patole’s Remark
In response to the remarks made by Patole, Reacting to Patole’s remarks, BJP leaders hit out at Patole, stating that the party is once again accusing the grand old party of ‘insulting Hindu faith.’ “Once again, the Congress Party has shown sycophancy pro max. The Congress Party says that Rahul Gandhi is like Lord Ram. Just recently, they said Sonia Gandhi was the reason why Christmas can be celebrated. What kind of sycophancy? And then you are insulting the Hindu faith?” BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said.
The BJP representative went on to accuse the Congress of consistently opposing the Ram Temple, claiming that the party had previously stated that it shouldn’t be constructed and had even made fun of the Prana Pratishtha ceremony as being nothing more than “naach gaana.” Such statements, he claimed, are a reflection of the Congress’s ongoing insults and attacks on the Hindu religion.
Nana Patole’s Past Controversies
This was not the first time that Patole found himself embroiled in a controversy comparing Rahul Gandhi to Hindu deities. In 2022, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Patole said that it was merely a “coincidence” that both Lord Ram and Rahul Gandhi share names starting with the letter “R,” while insisting that the Congress does not equate Gandhi with the deity.
He noted that Lord Ram, Shankaracharya, and Rahul Gandhi all undertook long journeys on foot, but stressed that this was not a comparison. Patole had told ANI that Rahul Gandhi is a human being working for humanity, unlike BJP leaders who, he claimed, compare their leaders to gods.
