Tata Motors has launched the new Punch today, strengthening its position in the sub-compact SUV segment with a wider range of powertrain options. Priced from ₹5.59 lakh (ex-showroom), the refreshed Punch now stands out as the most powerful offering in its category, thanks to the introduction of a turbo-petrol engine producing 118bhp and 170Nm.
With a strong focus on versatility and fuel choice, Tata has positioned the updated Punch to appeal to a broad range of buyers, from city commuters to those seeking added performance.
Three Petrol-Based Powertrains on Offer
The new Punch is available with three 1.2-litre petrol-based engine configurations. The naturally aspirated petrol unit delivers 86.5bhp and 115Nm and can be paired with either a five-speed manual or an AMT gearbox.
For buyers prioritising efficiency, Tata offers a CNG variant producing 72bhp and 103Nm. Notably, the Punch CNG features a twin-cylinder tank layout, allowing for improved boot usability. This version is available with both manual and AMT transmission options, making CNG with automatic transmission a key highlight of the range.
At the top of the line-up sits the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which develops 118bhp and 170Nm. This motor is paired exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox and gives the Punch the highest power output in its segment.
Variant-Wise Powertrain Availability
The new Punch is offered in eight variants: Smart, Pure, Pure+, Pure+ S, Adventure, Adventure S, Accomplished, and Accomplished+ S. Powertrain availability varies across the range.
Smart and Pure variants are offered with the 1.2 NA petrol and 1.2 CNG engines, both paired with a five-speed manual gearbox.
Pure+ variants add more flexibility, offering the NA petrol and CNG options with both manual and AMT transmissions.
The Pure+ S variant combines the NA petrol with manual or AMT choices, while the CNG version is limited to a manual gearbox.
Adventure variants expand the line-up further, offering NA petrol and CNG options with manual and AMT gearboxes, along with the turbo-petrol engine paired with a six-speed manual.
Adventure S variants include the NA petrol with manual transmission and the CNG version with manual or AMT options.
The Accomplished variant offers NA petrol with manual or AMT, while the CNG version remains manual-only.
At the top of the range, the Accomplished+ S variant brings together all three engines, including the turbo-petrol with a six-speed manual gearbox.
