Musi Project Designs Face Questions Over AI Use
Telangana Government Faces Questions Over Musi Project AI-Based Designs
Concerns raised over visual presentations and planning clarity
Questions have emerged over the Musi rejuvenation project, with the Telangana government and Musi Riverfront Development Corporation facing criticism for relying on AI-generated images. From initial presentations to visuals released during the foundation ceremony, multiple designs have been circulated.
The issue has triggered concerns regarding the absence of a clear and consistent project plan.
Temple design variations draw attention
During the foundation event, visuals resembling the Ramappa temple were showcased as part of the proposed Omkareshwara Swamy temple design. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also stated that a structure similar to the Ramappa temple would be built at Manchirevula.
However, a different model of the same temple was released later the same day, showing no resemblance to the earlier design. The variation between the two images has raised questions about consistency.
Multiple religious structures announced with AI visuals
The government has announced plans to construct four major religious structures, including a large Sanatana temple complex at Manchirevula, a mosque near Purana Pul, a gurdwara at Gowliguda, and a church near Nagole.
An estimated ₹2,500 crore has been indicated for these constructions. AI-generated images of all four structures were released, but the designs reportedly differed across releases.
Lack of a detailed project report raises concerns
There is growing concern over the absence of a detailed project report for the Musi rejuvenation initiative. Frequent changes in visuals and announcements have led to confusion among residents in the river basin areas.
Similar issues were noted earlier when different images were released for the Gandhi Sarovar project, adding to doubts over planning consistency.
Dependence on AI visuals questioned
The use of AI-generated imagery in official presentations has drawn scrutiny. Visuals presented in PowerPoint briefings and by MRDCL officials appear to rely heavily on AI tools, with differing outputs emerging for similar concepts.
This has led to questions on whether adequate verification and design finalisation processes are in place before public release.
Consultant role under scrutiny
The government has appointed a consultant for the Musi rejuvenation project. However, concerns have been raised about the role and output of the consultant, given the repeated release of varying visuals.
Observers have questioned whether public funds allocated for consultancy are being effectively utilised.
Public demand clarity on project execution
Residents and stakeholders have sought clarity on whether a definitive plan exists for the Musi project. Repeated changes in announcements and design representations have led to uncertainty over the project’s scope and execution.
The issue has also brought attention to broader concerns regarding land use and development priorities under the project framework.
Context
The Musi rejuvenation project is positioned as a major urban development initiative. However, the lack of consistent design communication and detailed planning has led to ongoing public debate.
