Lokesh Launches Mangalagiri Premier League, Joins Cricket Action
Lokesh Opens MPL, Takes to the Field at Mangalagiri Cricket Event
Andhra Pradesh minister Nara Lokesh on Friday inaugurated the Mangalagiri Premier League (MPL), marking the start of local cricket competitions in the constituency. Despite a packed political schedule, the minister spent time at the ground, interacting with players and briefly joining the action with the bat.
Minister’s Long-Standing Association with the Game
Lokesh is known to be an avid follower of cricket and has often attended important Team India matches in stadiums, both in India and abroad. Beyond being a spectator, he is also regarded as a capable player. That familiarity with the game was on display at the MPL venue, where he played a few shots during an informal stint, drawing attention from players and spectators alike.

Tournament Begins with Local Match
After formally launching the league, Lokesh conducted the toss for the opening match between Venkatarao Youth and Undavalli Elevens. The brief sporting engagement added a lighter moment to the event, with photographs and short clips from the ground circulating widely on social media later in the day.
Retail Launch and Community Engagement Follow Sports Event
Following the cricket programme, the minister inaugurated a newly established Maguva clothing store in Mangalagiri. During the visit, he purchased sarees for his wife, Brahmani, and his mother, Bhuvaneswari Devi. The stop formed part of a series of local engagements undertaken by Lokesh across the constituency.
He later inaugurated a Peerla Saavidi that had been modernised using his personal funds. The event included special prayers conducted alongside Muslim elders, reflecting the community nature of the occasion.
Development Commitments Outlined for Mangalagiri
Addressing local residents, Lokesh said plans were underway to set up what he described as a state-of-the-art Rythu Bazaar in the area. He noted that around 300 farmers would be able to directly sell their produce at the proposed facility. He also stated that cremation grounds across the Mangalagiri constituency were being upgraded to meet growing demand.
Pointing to population growth in the area, Lokesh said Mangalagiri had seen an increase of around 25 per cent compared to earlier years. He added that civic infrastructure and public amenities would be expanded in line with this growth to address residents’ needs.
