KTR Telangana Land Scam: ₹5 Lakh Crore Industrial Land Controversy Explained
BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has launched a strong political attack against the Congress government in Telangana, accusing it of being involved in a massive land scam worth nearly ₹5 lakh crore. According to KTR, the state government is in the process of handing over 9,300 acres of valuable industrial lands to private companies, which he claims were originally allotted for employment generation, public utility, and developmental purposes.
KTR asserted that these lands, spread across industrial zones and prime locations, were never meant to be sold or transferred to corporate groups. He argued that instead of creating job opportunities and setting up industries as promised, the government is allegedly selling these lands to a select few businessmen. “The government has no right to sell lands that were allotted for industries, jobs, and public facilities,” KTR stated firmly.
Reference to Karnataka Case Sparks Debate
The controversy intensified after Congress MP Karti Chidambaram criticized the sale of Infosys land in Attibele, Karnataka, to a private firm, alleging that the company did not have the right to sell government land at a discounted rate for commercial purposes. Responding to the tweet, KTR drew parallels with Telangana, arguing that the same principle should apply.
He stated that when land is allotted on concessions for a specific purpose, neither the government nor the beneficiary has the right to misuse or sell it. “These lands belong to the people. They should be used for schools, hospitals, housing, parks, public transport, and development—not for private profit,” KTR added.
KTR Targets ‘Hyderabad Industrial Land Transformation Policy’
KTR also criticized the newly introduced Hyderabad Industrial Land Transformation Policy, calling it a cover to legitimize the “largest land scam in Telangana’s history.” He alleged that land priced at nearly ₹1 lakh per square yard in the open market is being transferred for as little as ₹4,000, resulting in massive financial loss to the state.
He warned real estate investors and developers not to fall for what he called the Congress government’s “sale offer trap”, reminding them that any land transferred illegally would be taken back if the BRS forms government again. “We are putting everyone on notice. Don’t get involved in this scam. The day BRS returns, every inch of this land will be reclaimed,” he cautioned.
BRS Plans to Reclaim Land If Elected
In a direct political warning, KTR announced that if BRS comes back to power, the party will cancel these land deals and recover the properties. He stressed that the state needs to preserve its industrial land bank for future development, investments, employment, and infrastructure expansion.
“If we return to the office, the first step will be to take back these illegally allotted lands. Telangana’s resources are not for sale. They are for the people,” he said.
Demand for Transparent Investigation
KTR also demanded a full-scale inquiry into the alleged land sales, calling for transparency and public disclosure of all land transfer documents, pricing, beneficiaries, and involved companies. He accused the ruling party of sacrificing Telangana’s economic future for financial gain.
He concluded by stating that protecting public assets is part of BRS’s commitment to “Telangana self-respect, economic security, and responsible governance.”
