Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao stated that the recent municipal election results reflect public response to the Congress government. Speaking in Hyderabad on February 13 at Telangana Bhavan, he said party workers and voters supported BRS despite what he described as administrative pressure during the elections.
KTR thanked party cadres and urban voters for standing by the party. He said the results demonstrate continued support for BRS and described the outcome as a political message to the ruling government.
Claims on Governance and Electoral Trends
KTR alleged that the Congress government failed to win public confidence despite being in power. He said recent panchayat and municipal poll outcomes in Telangana show a trend different from the usual advantage enjoyed by ruling parties in local body elections.
He recalled that in 2020, BRS had won 122 municipalities and corporations out of 130 mayor and chairperson positions, while Congress secured four, BJP two, and AIMIM two. He maintained that the latest results indicate BRS remains politically relevant across urban areas.
Stand on Hung Municipalities and Alliances
Referring to the municipal results, KTR said several local bodies returned fractured mandates. He stated that the party would consult BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao and local leadership before deciding its strategy in such municipalities.
He also said BRS would extend support to CPI in Kothagudem, where no party secured a clear majority, adding that discussions were held with CPI leaders regarding cooperation in the corporation.
Remarks on Governance and Opposition Role
KTR criticized the Congress government over governance issues and said BRS would continue raising public concerns. He added that the party would question the implementation of promises and policies, particularly those affecting weaker sections, minorities, youth, and women.
He said local elections are driven by local issues and maintained that the municipal results reflect shifting public opinion. KTR also expressed confidence that BRS would remain a key political force in Telangana’s future elections.
