Telangana Police Register Case After Husband Sets Wife on Fire in Khammam

A tragic domestic incident was reported from Tirumalayapalem in Khammam district where a man allegedly set his wife on fire before attempting suicide by consuming pesticide. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The incident involved Thotamalla Nagabhushanam, a resident of Tirumalayapalem, who had reportedly been suffering from kidney disease for the past two years. According to preliminary information, he took the extreme step after a prolonged period of illness.

Illness and Repeated Suicide Attempts

Police said Nagabhushanam had earlier attempted suicide three times by consuming pesticide due to his deteriorating health condition. On each occasion, his wife Jayamma intervened and prevented the attempt.

Officials said the worsening health issues appeared to have affected him severely in recent months. Investigators believe this situation led to growing distress and tension within the household.

Incident Occurs at Midnight

According to information gathered by police, the incident occurred late at night while Jayamma was asleep at their residence. Nagabhushanam allegedly poured petrol on her and set her on fire.

After carrying out the act, he reportedly consumed pesticide that he had brought earlier. The incident quickly drew attention as flames were noticed coming from the house.

Locals Alert Family Members

Local residents who noticed the fire immediately alerted the couple’s son. He rushed to the spot and arranged to shift both his parents to a government hospital for emergency treatment.

Doctors admitted both victims and began treatment soon after their arrival at the hospital.

Husband Dies During Treatment

Police confirmed that Nagabhushanam died while undergoing treatment. Jayamma is currently receiving treatment at the Khammam Government Hospital.

Officials said the condition of the woman is being monitored as treatment continues.

Tirumalayapalem police have registered a case and started an investigation into the incident. Authorities are examining the sequence of events that led to the attack and subsequent suicide attempt.
