Karnataka Government Orders High-Level Probe into CJ Roy Death
The Karnataka government has ordered a high-level investigation into the death of Confident Group chairman CJ Roy during Income Tax questioning in Bengaluru. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the circumstances surrounding the incident raise serious concerns and require a detailed administrative and factual examination.
Deputy Chief Minister Details Sequence of Events
Addressing the media, DK Shivakumar said Income Tax officials were questioning CJ Roy when he reportedly asked for five minutes, went inside, and allegedly shot himself. He described the incident as deeply unfortunate and said it should not have happened under any circumstances.
Shivakumar noted that CJ Roy was a well-known businessman and said the government would not treat the matter casually. He emphasised that the truth would be established through a structured and transparent investigation.
Inter-State Angle Under Examination
The Deputy Chief Minister said the government had been informed that a team from Kerala had arrived in connection with the matter. He stated that the role of officials involved, the sequence of events, and the overall handling of the questioning would be examined in detail during the probe.
He added that further clarity would emerge once investigators complete their inquiry and submit findings to the government.
Report Sought by Central Authorities
DK Shivakumar confirmed that the Karnataka government has also been asked to submit a report to the authorities in Delhi. He said the administration would cooperate fully and ensure all required information is shared through official channels.
The state government, he said, would place verified facts before the public after the investigation is completed, without speculation or delay.
Administrative and Legal Process Underway
Police have already initiated procedural steps related to the death, while the state government’s probe will focus on administrative accountability and compliance during the Income Tax action. Details of the police case and initial findings are available in the report on the Bengaluru police registering a case in the CJ Roy death during IT raids.
Officials said further action would depend on the conclusions of both the police investigation and the high-level inquiry ordered by the government.
