Fatal Collision on Kattipudi Highway in Kakinada District
Kakinada: A severe road accident involving two container lorries occurred on the Kattipudi Highway in Kakinada district, resulting in one death and serious injuries to two others. The collision led to a fire that completely gutted the front portions of both vehicles.
The incident took place near the Kattipudi junction, disrupting traffic on the busy highway and prompting an emergency response from local authorities.
Fire Breaks Out After Container Collision
According to preliminary information, one container lorry transporting aqua feed was travelling from Bhimavaram to Mulaseta. While taking a turn at the Kattipudi junction, it was hit by another container lorry carrying cotton waste bundles, which was en route from Kolkata to Chennai.
Following the collision, flames erupted from the engine compartments of both vehicles. The fire quickly spread, engulfing the front sections of the lorries and leaving little time for those inside to escape.
Driver Killed, Two Others Injured
In the blaze, the driver of the cotton waste container, identified as Kamal Sheikh (43), was trapped inside the vehicle and was burnt alive. Police later confirmed that the deceased hailed from Kolkata.
Two other persons sustained serious injuries in the accident. They were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition was reported to be critical.
Firefighters Rush to Control Blaze
Fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the accident. Firefighters worked to douse the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further along the highway.
The damaged vehicles were later removed from the road to restore traffic movement in the area. Local residents gathered at the scene as emergency operations continued for several hours.
Police Register Case, Probe Underway
Police have registered a case in connection with the accident and have begun an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the collision. Statements from witnesses and injured persons are expected to form part of the inquiry.
