India-Russia Su-57 Fighter Jet Deal has entered the final stage of negotiations as India discusses the procurement of advanced stealth aircraft from Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation. Officials indicated that talks are progressing toward a major defence agreement focused on strengthening air combat capability.
The proposed India-Russia Su-57 Fighter Jet Deal involves the purchase of 40 Sukhoi Su-57 fifth-generation stealth fighter jets. The agreement is estimated to be valued at around ₹58,000–63,000 crore, equivalent to approximately $7 billion.

According to defence sources, the India-Russia Su-57 Fighter Jet Deal would significantly enhance India’s air power strategy. The estimated per-aircraft cost is around ₹1,500 crore, which is lower compared to ongoing negotiations for additional Rafale fighter jets.

Officials noted that the aircraft offers fifth-generation stealth capability. The deal also includes Su-57 stealth fighter technology transfer, allowing integration of indigenous weapons systems, avionics modifications, and independent upgrades by India.
Experts said such provisions strengthen long-term defence autonomy and domestic capability. Meanwhile, analysts observed that India-Russia defence cooperation continues to evolve through strategic military technology partnerships.
Government sources confirmed that the India-Russia Su-57 Fighter Jet Deal is being evaluated in the context of regional security. The acquisition is expected to act as a transitional solution until India’s indigenous Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft programme becomes operational in the mid-2030s.
Defence observers highlighted that neighbouring countries are expanding stealth fighter fleets, including China’s J-20 programme. Officials believe the deal could help bridge India’s fifth-generation fighter aircraft India capability gap and maintain aerial balance.
