India Register Record T20I Batting Feats Against New Zealand
A high-scoring finale to the T20I series
The fifth T20I between India and New Zealand in Thiruvananthapuram delivered one of the highest run aggregates in men’s T20I history, with the two teams combining for 496 runs. The total stands as the second-highest match aggregate in the format, behind the 517 runs scored by South Africa and West Indies in Centurion in 2023.
India set the tone with 271 for 5, their third-highest total in T20Is. It was also the highest score ever recorded against New Zealand, surpassing Australia’s 245 for 4 in Auckland in 2018. The innings marked India’s fourth 250-plus total in T20Is, the most by any team.

Six-hitting defines the contest
India struck 23 sixes in their innings, equalling their highest tally in a T20I innings, previously achieved against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2024. New Zealand added 13 more, taking the match total to 36 sixes, the second-most in any men’s T20I match. Across the five-match series, 116 sixes were hit, the third-highest tally for any bilateral T20I series, with India alone accounting for 69.
Kishan and Suryakumar set new benchmarks
Ishan Kishan’s hundred came off 42 balls, the fastest century against New Zealand and the fifth-fastest for India in men’s T20Is. He became the third Indian batter to score a T20I hundred against New Zealand and only the second to hit ten or more sixes in an innings against them.
Suryakumar Yadav reached 3,000 T20I runs in 1,822 balls, the quickest to the milestone. The third-wicket partnership between Kishan and Suryakumar yielded 137 runs, India’s highest for that wicket in men’s T20Is and their second-highest partnership against New Zealand.
Bowling figures reflect the conditions
India added 223 runs after the fall of the second wicket, the fourth-most by any team in a T20I innings. New Zealand’s chase began at pace, reaching 50 in 3.1 overs, the fastest team fifty against India.
Arshdeep Singh returned figures of 5 for 51, the most expensive five-wicket haul in T20I cricket. Jasprit Bumrah conceded 58 runs in his four overs, the most he has given away in a T20 match. The match saw five bowlers concede 50 or more runs, a joint record in men’s T20Is.
Series honours
Suryakumar claimed his sixth player-of-the-series award in men’s T20Is, drawing level with Wanindu Hasaranga and moving one behind Virat Kohli.
