Hyderabad Police Arrest Accused in Banjara Hills Blackmail and Fraud Case
A 24-year-old woman from Road No.14, Banjara Hills, approached an electrician, Kommu Vamseekrishna (20), for electrical work at her residence. What began as a routine service interaction later developed into a criminal case involving blackmail, harassment, and financial exploitation.
The incident has raised concerns over the misuse of social media communication and personal contact following routine service engagements. Police have completed the preliminary investigation and initiated legal action.
Contact Through Instagram Leads to Financial Exploitation
According to the complaint, the accused contacted the woman on Instagram the day after completing the electrical work, initiating a conversation with a message. The communication continued, eventually leading to repeated financial demands.
Initially, the accused took Rs. 20,000 from the victim. He later resorted to blackmail and, in multiple instalments, extracted Rs. 2 lakh. The accused again demanded and received another Rs. 2 lakh, significantly increasing the financial loss suffered by the victim.
Harassment and Threats Escalate
As the financial pressure increased, the woman distanced herself from the accused. Police said this led to further intimidation, with the accused allegedly monitoring her movements and obstructing her at different locations.
Three days before the complaint was filed, the accused reportedly threatened the victim with a knife while she was waiting for an auto and took Rs. 2,000. The incident caused fear and restricted her movement, affecting her ability to step out and attend work.
Police Action and Arrest
The victim approached the police, stating that she feared for her safety and was unable to move freely or attend her office due to continuous threats. Acting on the complaint, Banjara Hills police registered a case and conducted an investigation.
Police arrested the accused on Saturday and produced him before the court, following which he was remanded to judicial custody. The case is under further investigation.
