A tragic incident was reported in Bhadradri Kothagudem district where five BTech students went missing in the Godavari river under the Bhadrachalam limits.
The incident occurred during the Ugadi holidays when the students had visited the area along with friends and entered the river for bathing.
Students swept away while taking photos
According to available details, the students were pursuing second-year BTech at SRMT College in Amaravati. They had travelled along with their friends Abhiram and Sreekar, who are residents of the Bhadrachalam region.
The group went to the Godavari river near the Kolligudem sand ramp located on the outskirts of Purushothapatnam village in Etapaka mandal. While taking photographs, seven youths were suddenly caught in the river flow and swept away.
Two students reach safety, five remain missing
Out of the seven, two students managed to reach the riverbank as they knew swimming. However, the remaining five were carried away by the current and went missing.
The missing students have been identified as Abhiram, Sreekar, Teja, Satish, and Navadeep. Among them, Abhiram and Sreekar belong to the Bhadrachalam area.
Police and rescue teams begin search operations
On receiving information, police personnel rushed to the spot and initiated search operations. Expert swimmers were deployed to trace the missing students in the river.
A special rescue team has also been engaged in the operation, continuing efforts to locate the bodies.

The incident occurred during a festive period when several visitors frequent riverbanks in the region. Such areas often see increased footfall during holidays, with groups entering the water for leisure activities.
Authorities are continuing the search operation in the Godavari river as efforts remain underway to trace the missing students.
