Five-year-old girl dies after consuming pesticide
A five-year-old girl died after accidentally consuming pesticide that had been stored in a soft drink bottle in Andhra Pradesh’s Eluru district.
The incident occurred in Marrigudem village of Buttayagudem mandal. The child reportedly mistook the bottle for a cool drink and consumed the liquid, leading to severe health complications.
Family background and circumstances
According to available details, Poonem Nagendra Babu of Marrigudem had married Kumari of Andarvedigudem eight years ago. The couple has two children, including their daughter Ritika, aged five.
Family members said disputes had been occurring between the couple for some time. During this period, the mother allegedly brought pesticide used in tobacco fields in a soft drink bottle and placed it near the house fence.
Bottle kept near house fence
The pesticide had been stored in the bottle with the intention of threatening her husband. Reports indicate that she intended to warn him by stating she would consume the pesticide.
However, the bottle remained near the fence at the house. The container was reportedly left in a place where it could be easily accessed.

On Tuesday, Ritika noticed the bottle near the fence and assumed it contained a cool drink. Without informing anyone in the family, she consumed the liquid.
Soon after drinking it, the child began suffering from severe stomach pain and started crying.
Family members rushed to help the child after noticing her condition.
Child dies during treatment
The girl was immediately taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Buttayagudem for medical treatment.
Doctors provided treatment, but the child’s condition deteriorated. Ritika died at the hospital on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment.
