The central government has approved the long-pending proposal to procure 114 Rafale fighter aircraft from France. The decision was cleared during a meeting of the National Acquisition Council chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday.

The government is expected to spend approximately ₹3.6 lakh crore on the acquisition. The deal includes the purchase of 114 Rafale fighter jets for the Indian Air Force as part of efforts to enhance combat readiness.
In addition, the proposal also includes the procurement of six Boeing P8-I maritime surveillance aircraft for the Indian Navy, further expanding surveillance and operational capacity.
