Tamil Nadu Police have arrested four persons in connection with a brutal assault on a 64-year-old man in Cuddalore district, following a family dispute that escalated into extreme violence. The incident has drawn attention for its severity and the circumstances surrounding it.
Attack Following Domestic Confrontation
The victim, identified as Rajendran, was targeted after he reportedly confronted his daughter-in-law over an alleged illicit relationship. Police said the confrontation led to a retaliatory attack involving the woman’s partner.
Rajendran was travelling on a motorcycle when he was intercepted on the road. During the assault, petrol was allegedly poured on him before he was set on fire. Visuals of the injured man running along the road while engulfed in flames have circulated widely and caused distress.
Victim Suffers Severe Burns
Rajendran sustained around 70 percent burn injuries and is currently undergoing medical treatment. His condition remains serious, and he is being treated under close medical supervision.
Investigators have recorded the sequence of events based on preliminary findings and witness accounts from the area where the attack took place.
Four Arrested, Probe Underway
Police have arrested Rajendran’s daughter-in-law, Jayapriya, her alleged partner Manikandan, and two others in connection with the case. The arrests were made following initial questioning and evidence collected from the scene.
Authorities have registered the case under relevant sections of law and are continuing the investigation to establish individual roles and the exact sequence leading up to the attack. Further legal proceedings will follow based on the outcome of the probe.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over violent responses to domestic disputes and the need for timely intervention by authorities in family-related conflicts.
