Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao announced that the party would move forward to secure the Mayor post in Kothagudem Municipal Corporation. The statement followed a proposal from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. T. Rama Rao offering support to CPI.
Sambasiva Rao confirmed that discussions were held after KTR contacted him and conveyed support for CPI’s mayoral claim in the corporation.
Hung Verdict in Kothagudem Corporation
The Kothagudem Municipal Corporation produced a fractured mandate in the recent civic elections. Congress and CPI secured 22 seats each, while BRS won 8 seats. Other parties and independents accounted for 6 seats, with the BJP and CPM securing one seat each.
With no party crossing the majority mark, the corporation moved into a hung situation, prompting negotiations among parties for leadership positions.
Alliance Strategy for the Mayor Election
Following the proposal, CPI leadership indicated willingness to work with BRS to secure the Mayor post. Sambasiva Rao stated that the decision was taken in line with the proposal communicated by KTR.
The development is expected to influence political alignments within the corporation ahead of the mayoral election process.
Political Developments Continue
The announcement comes amid ongoing political negotiations in local bodies where no clear majority emerged. Parties continue to explore alliances and support arrangements to form leadership in municipal corporations.
