Congress Leader Alleges Corruption in Jagtial Municipality
Former Minister Alleges Systemic Irregularities in Jagtial Municipality
Jagtial: Senior Congress leader and former minister Jivan Reddy on Wednesday accused Jagtial MLA M. Sanjay Kumar of turning the Jagtial municipality into what he described as a center of corruption. Addressing the media at Indira Bhavan in the district headquarters, Reddy said repeated Anti-Corruption Bureau raids and vigilance inquiries reflected the scale of alleged irregularities.
He alleged that the MLA reacted sharply whenever issues related to governance and accountability were raised in public, adding that the situation within the municipality had deteriorated over the years.
Frequent Commissioner Transfers Highlight Mismanagement
Reddy claimed that during the five-year tenure of the previous municipal governing body, as many as 16 commissioners were transferred. He said such a high number of changes in a short period was unprecedented and indicative of administrative instability.
He further alleged that eight municipal employees were jailed during this period, holding the MLA responsible for what he termed a climate of pressure and interference within the civic administration.
Chairperson’s Resignation and Court Orders Cited
The former minister stated that the municipal chairperson had resigned due to sustained pressure, which he attributed to the MLA’s actions. He questioned why illegal constructions near a petrol bunk in the district headquarters had not been removed despite court directions.
Reddy said the failure to act on judicial orders raised serious concerns about enforcement and compliance at the local level.
Infrastructure Projects and Road Expansion Issues
Raising infrastructure concerns, Reddy said the LL Garden Road could serve as an alternative route to Nizamabad Road and should have been widened long ago. He alleged that despite repeated requests, no action was taken and that he was instead accused of obstructing the project.
Referring to an earlier proposal during his tenure as MLA, Reddy questioned whether a plan to widen Yavar Road to 100 feet was deliberately stalled to prevent political credit to the Congress.
Integrated Market and Contractor Dues
Reddy also referred to the integrated market established in Jagtial, stating that two years after its inauguration, contractors had not received their payments. He alleged that the facility was being used as a godown due to the non-clearance of bills.
He concluded by alleging that Jagtial had become synonymous with corruption and that Congress workers who had spent years building the party were being exploited under the present arrangement.
