As Andhra Pradesh prepares to celebrate Sankranti, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has delivered a series of financial announcements that have brought festive cheer to lakhs of families across the state.
Speaking while heading to his native Naravaripalle to take part in Sankranti celebrations, the Chief Minister shared what many are calling timely and much-awaited good news. The decisions, announced on the eve of the festival, are expected to ease financial pressures and add to the celebratory spirit in homes across Andhra Pradesh.
Relief for Government Employees and Pensioners
In a significant move, the state government has cleared long-pending Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears, benefiting a large section of government staff and pensioners. DA arrears due from July 1, 2023, along with payments related to surrendered leave, have now been released.
According to official figures, the government has allocated ₹1,100 crore towards DA arrears for approximately 2.3 lakh government employees and 2.7 lakh pensioners. In addition, ₹110 crore has been sanctioned specifically for the payment of surrendered leave to police personnel.
Employees and pensioners have welcomed the decision, describing it as a thoughtful gesture by the government during the festive season. Many said the announcement has brought renewed enthusiasm ahead of Sankranti celebrations.
Major Boost for Contractors Awaiting Dues
The festival announcements also carried encouraging news for contractors who have been awaiting payments for completed government projects and development works. The state government has released ₹1,243 crore to clear outstanding bills, offering long-awaited relief to the contracting community.
Contractors expressed satisfaction with the move, noting that the release of funds will help them stabilise finances and continue work without further delays.
Finance Department Clears ₹2,653 Crore Package
With approvals from the Finance Department, the government has released a total of ₹2,653 crore, ensuring benefits reach nearly five lakh people across different sections. Officials stated that the clearances were issued in line with the Chief Minister’s directions, keeping the festive timing in mind.
Many see the decision as an effort to ensure Sankranti is celebrated with dignity and joy in every household. With salaries, arrears, and pending payments credited, this year’s festival is being described by beneficiaries as truly special.
