Bangladesh Real-Time Updates: The first female prime minister of Bangladesh, Khaleda Zia, passed away this morning following a protracted illness. She was eighty years old.
According to a Facebook announcement from her party, the former prime minister and chair of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) passed away around six in the morning.
Zia’s passing caused Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express sadness.
He wrote in a post on X that Zia’s significant contributions to Bangladesh’s development and India-Bangladesh ties will always be remembered as the country’s first female prime minister.
“I remember our cordial encounter in Dhaka in 2015. We hope that her legacy and ambition will continue to direct our collaboration. He wrote, “May her soul rest in peace.”
