Bandla Ganesh Announces Tirumala Foot March from Shadnagar, Sparks Political Buzz
A Devotional Journey with Political Undercurrents
Film actor and producer Bandla Ganesh has announced a long-distance foot march from his hometown Shadnagar to the sacred hill shrine of Tirumala, a decision that has drawn significant attention beyond religious circles.
The yatra, which will begin on January 19, will start from his residence in Shadnagar and conclude with a darshan at the Tirumala temple. While pilgrimages on foot to Tirumala are common among devotees, Ganesh’s announcement has triggered widespread political discussion due to the circumstances and motivations behind the journey.
A Vow Rooted in Recent Political Events
Bandla Ganesh, who continues to be active in the Telugu film industry, is also a politically engaged figure and is currently associated with the Congress party in Telangana. However, he has publicly stated that this foot march is not a political campaign but the fulfillment of a personal vow.
The vow dates back to 2023, when former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was arrested in connection with the Skill Development case and spent 56 days in judicial custody under the then YSR Congress Party government. At the time, Ganesh actively participated in protests across Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh, expressing strong opposition to the arrest.
Ganesh had then vowed to undertake a foot pilgrimage to Tirumala if Naidu was released safely.
From Arrest to Political Comeback
Following his release, Chandrababu Naidu went on to register a record electoral victory in Andhra Pradesh and returned to office as Chief Minister for a fourth term, completing nearly 19 months in power so far. With that promise fulfilled, Bandla Ganesh has now decided to honor his earlier vow through this spiritual journey.
Why March Has Political Significance
Though framed as a devotional act, the foot march has become a subject of political debate. Ganesh’s public admiration for Chandrababu Naidu — despite being a Congress leader in Telangana — has drawn attention, especially given Naidu’s national political alignment alongside the BJP.
Ganesh has repeatedly spoken in praise of Naidu in public forums and YouTube interviews, significantly amplifying the Chief Minister’s public image during the arrest episode. His decision to undertake a high-profile pilgrimage as a celebrity has further heightened curiosity.
Questions Surrounding the Yatra
The journey from Shadnagar to Tirumala covers approximately 460 kilometres. Questions remain about how many days the pilgrimage will take, whether Ganesh will walk alone, and if supporters or followers will accompany him along the route.
Equally, there is growing interest in how the Congress party will view and respond to this development, given the broader political implications.
While the foot march is being presented as an act of faith, its timing, symbolism, and public visibility ensure that it will continue to resonate within political circles in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
