New Political Parties Likely Ahead of AP Elections 2029
New Political Formations Surface Ahead of 2029
The emergence of new political parties ahead of elections is not unusual in Andhra Pradesh. In previous election cycles, too, several parties were launched close to polling season. While most faded quickly, only a handful managed to leave a lasting imprint. As political preferences evolve and social aspirations sharpen, the possibility of more new parties entering the fray ahead of the 2029 elections is increasingly being discussed.
Observers note that shifts in voter expectations, along with demands from specific social and regional groups, are creating space for alternative political platforms. Against this backdrop, speculation around fresh political entrants has gained momentum.
Former IPS Officers Signal Political Interest
Among the names drawing attention is A B Venkateswara Rao, a former IPS officer who held key positions during his service. After retirement, he has been increasingly vocal about public issues and has indicated, through multiple media interactions, that he intends to launch a political party. Rao has stated that he views politics as a more effective avenue for public service, making his electoral debut in the next election cycle appear likely.
Another former IPS officer, P V Sunil Kumar, has also been engaging actively with the media. His recent interviews and sharp criticism on governance issues have triggered speculation about his political ambitions, though no formal announcement has been made.
Focus on Marginalised Communities
Sunil Kumar has repeatedly spoken about issues affecting backward and marginalised communities, stating that he would continue to stand by them until justice is ensured. His consistent focus on these themes has strengthened talk that he may consider forming a political platform centred on social equity.
Rumours Around Regional Parties
Separately, reports continue to circulate about Y S Sharmila, who currently serves as Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president. There is speculation that she may launch a sub-regional party focused on the Rayalaseema region. The proposed name “Rayalaseema Rashtra Samithi” has also been mentioned, though no confirmation has come from Sharmila herself. If such a move materialises, it could significantly alter the political dynamics of the region.
In North Andhra, talk of a sub-regional front has also gained ground. Duvvada Srinivas, who was suspended from the YSR Congress Party, is said to be exploring the formation of a political platform or front in Srikakulam district with like-minded individuals.
Impact on Electoral Math
Political analysts point out that the rise of multiple opposition parties could split anti-incumbency votes, indirectly benefiting the ruling party. At the same time, the impact of new entrants will depend on leadership profiles, social backing, and regional conditions. With several years still to go, more political formations are expected to emerge as 2029 approaches.
