Two police personnel were caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while allegedly accepting a bribe at Gangaram Police Station in the Polavaram district. The operation was conducted following a complaint related to a domestic dispute case, leading to the arrest of the accused officers.
The incident has drawn attention within administrative circles as authorities initiated legal proceedings against the officials involved.
Bribe Demand Linked to Case Proceedings
The case stems from a complaint filed by a woman against her husband over an alleged extramarital relationship. During the course of the investigation, police officials allegedly demanded money to avoid taking action in the case.
According to the complaint, the husband, identified as Shiva, was asked to pay ₹20,000 in order to prevent further legal steps in the matter. Faced with the demand, the complainant approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau seeking intervention.
ACB Conducts Trap and Makes Arrests
Acting on the complaint, ACB officials organized a trap operation at Gangaram Police Station. During the operation, Sub-Inspector Venkatesh and Constable Veerababu were caught while allegedly accepting the bribe amount.
Both officials were taken into custody immediately following the operation. Authorities seized the cash involved and initiated formal legal procedures under anti-corruption laws.
Administrative Action and Investigation
The Anti-Corruption Bureau has begun further investigation into the matter, examining the circumstances under which the bribe was demanded and accepted. Officials are also reviewing departmental procedures related to the handling of the case.
The incident highlights continued enforcement efforts by anti-corruption authorities in addressing allegations of bribery within public institutions. Further legal action will follow based on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
