ABN Andhra Jyothy Expresses Regret Over On-Air Debate Remark
Channel Responds to ‘Get Out’ Controversy
ABN Andhra Jyothy has stepped back from the controversy surrounding an on-air remark made during a televised debate and formally expressed regret over the incident. The channel stated that it was pained by the words “Get out from my debate” directed at BRS leader and MLC Takkallapalli Ravinder Rao during the programme. A clarification expressing regret was published by the organization on Thursday.
The episode occurred during a debate on the phone tapping issue aired recently on ABN Andhra Jyothy.
Debate Held Amid Reports on SIT Inquiry
The debate was organized amid widespread circulation of reports on social media and some news platforms claiming that SIT officials were questioning former DCP Radha Kishan Rao, along with BRS Working President and former minister K.T. Rama Rao. These reports were later contested as inaccurate during the programme.
To discuss the issue, BRS MLC Takkallapalli Ravinder Rao was invited as a guest to the debate.
Exchange Escalates During Live Discussion
During the discussion, Ravinder Rao raised strong objections to what he described as incorrect reporting by sections of the media regarding the SIT inquiry. He cautioned against what he termed damage to the reputation of political leaders through unverified claims.
As Ravinder Rao was presenting his views, the debate took a sharp turn. The anchor, Venkata Krishna, interrupted him and made the remark, “Get out from my debate,” addressing the MLC on air. The exchange was captured on video and soon circulated widely on social media platforms.
Political and Public Reaction
The video triggered strong reactions online, with many users questioning the conduct of the anchor and the channel, particularly over the manner in which an elected member of the Legislative Council was addressed after being invited to the programme.
Following the incident, the BRS announced a boycott of ABN Andhra Jyothy. The party instructed its leaders not to participate in debates hosted by the channel and decided to deny entry to the channel’s representatives at party press conferences and public meetings.
Formal Complaint and Channel’s Clarification
Separately, Ravinder Rao submitted a complaint to Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, citing the alleged insult during the debate.
In this backdrop, ABN Andhra Jyothy issued its statement expressing regret over the remark, signaling a move to de-escalate the issue after sustained political and public criticism.
