Jangaon Officials Face Heat Over Illegal House Occupation
Jangaon Authorities Face Allegations Over Illegal Occupation of Double Bedroom Houses
Unauthorised entry reported in Sirisannagudem village
An incident of alleged illegal occupation of double bedroom houses has surfaced in Sirisannagudem village of Palakurthi mandal in Jangaon district. According to reports, a group of individuals forcibly broke open the locks of government-built houses and took possession of them.
The houses were originally constructed under the previous BRS government with the objective of providing housing to economically weaker sections. A total of 20 units were completed in the village, but the process of identifying beneficiaries was halted due to the Assembly elections.
Delay in beneficiary selection triggers dispute
Following the change in government, the Congress administration assumed power. However, even after two and a half years, the selection of beneficiaries for these houses has not been finalised.
This delay appears to have created a vacuum, leading to the reported encroachments. Allegations have emerged that certain Congress leaders, with the backing of elected representatives, collected money from individuals in connection with allotments.
Allegations against local leaders and cadres
Reports indicate that around 20 Congress party workers entered the housing units on Wednesday night and took control of them after breaking the locks. It is also alleged that those who occupied the houses are financially well-off and not eligible under the intended beneficiary criteria.
The incident has raised questions about the role of local political leadership and administrative oversight in the area.
Officials yet to respond
There are also allegations that revenue and police authorities have not taken action or intervened in the matter so far. The lack of response has drawn criticism from sections of the public, particularly given the intended purpose of the housing scheme.
The situation highlights ongoing concerns regarding implementation delays and monitoring of welfare housing schemes in the district.
