GHMC Orders Probe Into Mosquito Fogging Irregularities
GHMC Orders Probe Into Irregularities in Mosquito Fogging Operations
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has initiated action after irregularities surfaced in mosquito fogging operations, raising concerns over the misuse of public resources. The issue came to light following internal scrutiny related to fuel usage meant for fogging activities across the city.
Authorities found that diesel allocated for mosquito fogging was allegedly not fully utilised for its intended purpose, prompting a departmental investigation into the matter.
Allegations of Fuel Misuse and Financial Irregularities
During the inquiry, officials detected that diesel meant for fogging operations was allegedly diverted and sold instead of being used in full for mosquito control. Reports indicated that certain supervisory staff were involved in distributing a fixed monthly amount of ₹5,000 to field workers, while the remaining funds were allegedly shared among higher-level personnel, including supervisory and engineering officials.
The irregularities reportedly came to light after discrepancies emerged in internal financial distribution, leading to further verification by higher authorities.
Departmental Action and Administrative Measures
Following the investigation, GHMC authorities removed a supervisor from service as part of disciplinary action. Officials stated that corrective measures are being implemented to prevent recurrence and ensure accountability in fogging operations.
As part of preventive steps, authorities have begun supplying diesel mixed with Melathion chemical to ensure it cannot be diverted for unauthorised use. The measure is intended to ensure that allocated resources are used strictly for mosquito control activities.
Focus on Public Health and Monitoring
The development has drawn attention to the importance of transparent implementation of public health measures, particularly in mosquito control operations. GHMC officials said monitoring mechanisms are being strengthened to ensure proper utilisation of resources and effective execution of fogging programmes.
Further departmental review and administrative oversight are expected as part of ongoing efforts to address the issue and maintain operational integrity.
